Both systems are controlled by a Bosch MEDG17.0 central unit.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.alientech-tools.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imagesnews\/ford-ecoboost.jpg\" alt=\"ford ecoboost\" width=\"800\" height=\"671\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Direct gasoline injection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The high-pressure fuel is directly injected inside the combustion chamber of each cylinder. The advantages include a more accurate fuel supply that reduces emissions, an improved volumetric efficiency, a significant reduction in the eventual knock sensor for better engine performance and decreased fuel consumption.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.alientech-tools.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imagesnews\/ecoboost-direct-injection2.jpg\" alt=\"ecoboost direct injection2\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>EcoBoost TT V6<\/strong>: Twin-Scroll Turbo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Through this system, the exhaust gases flow from the two manifolds of the V6 engine to the turbine and the kinetic energy generated by the rotation speed of the shaft spreads the rotation to the compressor, increasing the aspirated air pressure. Nobody wants &#8220;turbo-lag\u201d! For this reason, Ford has decided to first use the Twin-Scroll Turbo configuration on the 2.7L EcoBoost engine, but the TT technology is not just suitable for muscle-cars. The restyled Ford 3.5L F-150 MY2015 is a valid example. You can see that it is not complicated to be opened compared to a MED17 T-PROT BMW, for example.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.alientech-tools.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imagesnews\/ecu_ford_explorer_f_150.png\" alt=\"ecu ford explorer f 150\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The ECM Titanium drivers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Now we will show you an example of an ECM Titanium driver and the related maps we found for a FORD EXPLORER (VI) 3.5L V6 EcoBoost TT 370PS.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.alientech-tools.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imagesnews\/Lista_mappe_ford_enu.jpg\" alt=\"Lista mappe ford enu\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As you have surely noticed, there are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">all the most important map categories to manage the engine performance<\/span>. Please, don&#8217;t forget that the Explorer and F-150&#8217;s Bosch MEDG17 central unit is similar to the one mounted on the new 1.5L EcoBoost (New Mondeo) and 2.3L EcoBoost (Mustang e Focus RS). The maps show the same units of measurement, that are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>[Nm] for axes and <strong>motor torque<\/strong> maps.<\/li>\n<li>[Load] for axes and <strong>motor charge<\/strong> and <strong>turbo pressure<\/strong> maps. The unit [Load] is equal to the volumetric efficiency (V.E.), so don&#8217;t be surprised if for a turbo engine as the 3.5L the charge reaches values of 1.8 or 2.0.<\/li>\n<li>[\u00b0TPS] for the <strong>electronic throttle valve<\/strong> map. TPS stands for <strong>T<\/strong>hrottle <strong>P<\/strong>osition <strong>S<\/strong>ensor.<\/li>\n<li>[deg BTDC] for <strong>motor timing<\/strong> maps. BTDC stands for <strong>B<\/strong>efore <strong>T<\/strong>op <strong>D<\/strong>ead <strong>C<\/strong>enter.<\/li>\n<li>[Lambda] for <strong>injection maps<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>[\u00b0F ECT] for the axes representing <strong>temperatures<\/strong> expressed in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Fahrenheit<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>[hPa] for the axes representing pressure expressed in Etto-Pascal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Let&#8217;s now concentrate on the most important maps you can modify to increase power.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Torque limiter f(APS)<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.alientech-tools.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imagesnews\/limitatore_coppia_ford_big.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/devel-www.alientech-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imagesnews\/limitatore_coppia_ford.png\" alt=\"limitatore coppia ford\" width=\"800\" height=\"141\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0As a consequence, the maximum engine torque value (474 Nm) shown on the map is related to the an ideal atmospheric pressure of 1000 hPa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Let&#8217;s now compare this map&#8217;s values with the next limiter.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Maximum torque limiter<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The following is a simple limiter depending on the motor RPM and on the percentage position of the accelerator pedal [% Acc]. You can notice that the maximum value of 474 Nm is identical to the previous map.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.alientech-tools.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imagesnews\/limitatore_coppia_massima_ford.png\" alt=\"limitatore coppia massima ford\" width=\"800\" height=\"110\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hence, you need to modify both maps (percentage or absolute value) entering the same maximum value on both maps in order to prevent Bosch ECU diagnosis to identify an error in the calculation of the torque found in the central unit.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Correction injection f (ECT)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Have you ever wondered which strategy is used by the ECU calibrators to choose the correct injection value to protect the engine? One of the essential parameters is the <strong>E<\/strong>ngine <strong>C<\/strong>oolant <strong>T<\/strong>emperature (ECT).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.alientech-tools.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imagesnews\/iniezione_correzione_ford.png\" alt=\"iniezione correzione ford\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At 180\u00b0F (around 82\u00b0C) the ECU uses the map values to manage fuel enrichment to protect the engine functioning. This strategy can be extended to other systems, such as the <strong>turbo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Limiter of turbo pressure f(IAT)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.alientech-tools.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imagesnews\/limitatore_pressione_turbo_ford_big.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.alientech-tools.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imagesnews\/limitatore_pressione_turbo_ford.png\" alt=\"limitatore pressione turbo ford\" width=\"800\" height=\"92\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Although values don&#8217;t seem so true (500\u00b0F are around 230\u00b0C) this map is used by the ECU to limit the motor charge generated by the turbo system.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Remember that the unit of measurement [Load] is valid for aspirated and supercharged engines. In case of supercharged engine, the Load value always overcomes the 1 threshold.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Base map timing<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is always fundamental to understand the meaning of this map, because it&#8217;s always the most risky to be modified, if not correctly elaborated.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.alientech-tools.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/imagesnews\/anticipo_mappa_base_3D_ford.png\" alt=\"anticipo mappa base 3D ford\" width=\"800\" height=\"488\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On the 3D ECM Titanium view you can see that the three-dimensional structure of the map is really consistent, without variations (&#8220;peaks&#8221; or &#8220;gaps&#8221;) that could provoke a knocking or a gap in the engine performance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After modifying the map, we suggest to open the 3D view to verify there are no anomalies in its shape.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Useful information<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Other vehicles fitted with the EcoBoost TT 3.5L engine:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lincoln<strong> MKS<\/strong> and <strong>MKT<\/strong> (MY2013, 365 hp (272 kW) @5500 rpm, 350 lb\u00b7ft (475 Nm) @1500-5000 rpm)<\/li>\n<li>Ford <strong>Flex<\/strong> (MY2013, 365 hp (272 kW) @5500 rpm, 350 lb\u00b7ft (475 Nm) @3500 rpm)<\/li>\n<li>Ford <strong>Expedition<\/strong> and <strong>Expedition EL<\/strong> (MY2015, 365 hp (272 kW) @5000 rpm, 420 lb\u00b7ft (570 Nm) @2250 rpm)<\/li>\n<li>Lincoln <strong>Navigator<\/strong> and <strong>Navigator L<\/strong> (MY2015, 380 hp (283 kW) @5250 rpm, 460 lb\u00b7ft (625 Nm) @2750 rpm)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u201cin a recent past\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2010, Ford <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">had already used the 3.5L EcoBoost engine<\/span> for the most powerful version of Taurus: SHO.
